“transandrophobia is not a thing” does not mean “trans men do not face unique issues.” gay men also face unique issues, but that doesn’t mean they’re facing “homoandrophobia,” it means they’re facing homophobia. and if gay men were to coin a specific term for gay male oppression because they saw lesbians talking about lesbophobia and decided they wanted one too, that would be lesbophobic.

lesbophobia is the intersection of misogyny and homophobia. transmisogyny is the intersection of misogyny and transphobia. there is no such thing as “androphobia” for homophobia or transphobia to interact with, and as such there cannot be unique intersections of these dynamics with it. oftentimes what you are describing is actually these dynamics intermingling with misogyny, just presenting in a different way than it does toward trans women because they are women.

So.... this is how I see it. Many of us collectively switched from using the term transmisandry to the term transandrophobia for this very reason. What you mean is that misandry, the supposed oppression of men, does not exist. That is true. Androphobia is more of a psychological term to describe the fear of men, but that's besides the point.

The term transandrophobia was coined to try to better describe the intersection of misogyny and transphobia in the way that it is specifically directed towards trans men.

And while I agree that this term is far from perfect to describe this specific form of oppression that trans men face, it is the best that we have come up with so far.

Honestly I think this whole argument about transandrophobia not being "real" is a semantic arguement anyway, and is more about policing language towards our own community than it is about any wider societal issues.

I think of transandrophobia as a word built more from root words of Latin and Greek and less of a portmanteau.

And before anyone says I missed the point, no I didn't. I am in fact partially agreeing with OP. Because the real world is not black and white, and also that is the way to have productive conversations (by agreeing with certain points and continuing to build on the parts that you agree with)

But ultimately, I do wish we had a better word to describe this phenomenon.
